Moving from conspicuous to conscious consumption and doing reviews along the way.  Find plenty of unsponsored reviews of Quince, Everlane, Grana, and Cuyana on the site!  I'm working towards a minimal waste lifestyle, and oh yea I love bags >.<

Did

Updated these blog posts: St. Agni Mules Review, St. Agni Ciao Mules Review, St. Agni Paris Mules Review, Jenni Kayne Mules Review (just a big mules update because I recently took my favorite St. Agni mules in for a re-soling, pic below).

We celebrated a chill but rewarding Mother’s Day at the gardens at the park near my house. They were having a plant sale that day I bought some sunflowers for my yard! This year my garden is looking particularly lush and I enjoy adding even more flowers to it this year.

Speaking of flowers from the garden, I made rosewater for the first time with the roses blooming in my yard. I purchased 3 rose bushes last year, two from Lowe’s and one via Etsy, and they’re all blooming this year. I’ve been cuting them like crazy for both flower arrangements in the house as well as for deadheading (to promote more blooms). And with so many roses, I thought I’d try making rosewater for a toner. I followed the recipe here and it came out great. If you have a bunch of roses in your yard I highly recommend trying it!

Bought

Goodwill thrift trip: I went to Goodwill to drop some things off and decided to browse their clothes section. I picked up a black maxi forever21 skirt (in a great thick knit—shocker), a padded sleeveless top (I don’t know if I can pull it off but for $6.99 I was willing to try), a 100% silk knit top, and a new striped linen shirt with tags attached (might make for a good summer coverup). This was at my local Goodwill in Walnut Creek which I would say has decent stuff but you just have to hunt for a bit.

St. Agni Mules in pink suede from Poshmark: After taking my St. Agni mules for re-soling and updating all my mules reviews, I just wanted to see if there were any secondhand St. Agni mules for sale. And lo and behold I found a pair like my favorite black ones but in pink suede. Now I wouldn’t normally go for pink suede but these were in my size, brand new, and I got them for $55 (that’s about 30% less than the cost of re-soling my old pair). I just couldn’t resist, and since I’m such a mules fan I know I’ll get great use out of them! Also I’m not a regular poshmark buyer but the low-ball offer thrill is quite addicting!

Mate the Label is no longer making my favorite Organic Terry Raglan Sweatshirt so I purchased the last one in my size (in black) and also bought one for Emi in sage at half price. I normally don’t get suckered into sales but I wear this sweatshirt everyday (I have four that I rotate between) and Emi loves hers too. Even at half price it isn’t cheap but it’s 100% worth it.

Someone signed up for the Augustinus Bader Club with my link this month (thank you to whoever you are!), which gave them 25% off their first purchase as well as 25% off my next purchase. This gave me a chance to try out some things I’ve been eyeing from them including the Eyebrow and Lash Enhancing Serum and the Face Mask Cream. I also reordered the Victoria Beckham Primer (love this stuff), and the Augustinus Bader Face Oil (a real luxury but something I truly enjoyed).

Gifts

The lovely folks at Viori, makers of shampoo and conditioner bars, gifted with an amazing set (basically a lifetime set of shampoo and conditioner bars 😂). They also are one of the rare brands who offered to pay me for my time, and I’m grateful for their respect of my work here. I’ve already been using their sulfate-free, paraben-free,  phthalates-free, pH balanced, natural, 100% vegan, plastic-free, sustainable, cruelty-free, and ethically sourced bars and I love how soft my hair feels. Of course full review to come soon!

Thoughts

I’ve been thinking about fashion lately and the fact that I’m not particularly fashionable, which is ironic since this started as a fashion blog. I mean I know what I like and looks decent on me (for the most part). And though I sometimes jump on certain trends (hello puffed sleeves), I’m not particularly trendy, and most of the time I wear the same mundane things over and over. I think in the early years of this blog, when it really was all about clothes and I reviewed almost exclusively Everlane items, I was on trend because Everlane was trending. And I tried A LOT of their clothes. Some worked, some didn’t, but for the most part I looked put together and had a new outfit every week. Now that I’m no longer on that hamster wheel of new new new, I will seriously wear the same sweater and pants for 4 days out of the week and for weeks on end (and I bet no one would guess I write a blog about clothes). This is all just to say I do feel like I’ve been floundering when it comes to my style for the past couple of years (ever since I quit the Everlane train), and I think that’s ok. It’s ok to be mundane— it’s ok to stick to a uniform or a formula. But I guess that just means this isn’t really a style a blog 🤷🏻‍♀️.

P.S. Just wanted to let you guys know that I did not make a June newsletter for the Fairly Curate Shop, nor is there going to be a new product released in the store for this month. Time ran away from me this month, but I hope to be back with a newsletter in July!
