Augustinus Bader Review: The Scalp Treatment and The Essence

Though my days of Augustinus Bader credit are over (they restructured their referral credit program earlier this year), I was still able to try two more of their products with some leftover credit: The Scalp Treatment and The Essence. Here’s what I thought of them:

The Scalp Treatment

I don’t know if you could say I’m balding but my hair is definitely getting a little sparser and especially around my part. So I’ve tried the Augustinus Bader Shampoo (reviewed here), and I feel like it helps some. I thought I’d give my hair growth a bit more boost by using the Scalp Treatment after every shower. Its recommended application is on wet hair, and for good reason: it leaves a shiny residue when first applied. Thus if you applied it on dry hair, your thinning part/bald spot would be especially shiny and highlighted—not a good look on your white scalp. But by the time your hair and the treatment dries, it’s fairly matte. As for whether it boosts hair growth? I’ve used a whole bottle and I wouldn’t say I have noticeable growth, but at least the bald spot isn’t growing 🤷🏻‍♀️. Would I repurchase this again? Probably not.

The Essence

As for the Essence, when I first got it and tried it I was fairly unimpressed as well. However as I kept using it, I grew to like it more. The Essence is meant to go on like a toner, after cleansing but before moisturizing. On the days I remember to use the Essence I notice my skin is softer, smoother, and more moisturized. I also like how smoother and thinner my AB Rich cream spreads when I use the Essence first (thus I feel like I use less pumps of my moisturizer). However I only use the Essence at night because I’ve noticed that if I use it in the morning under moisturizer (my AB rich cream) and under sunscreen, I tend to get maskne on the days I wear a mask. Not a big deal but I just keep the Essence for nights. But after I finish the bottle I’m not sure I’d repurchase it either. But I’ll never say never since I learned my lesson with the Augustinus Bader shampoo (I didn’t think much of it at the time and wasn’t planning on repurchasing it, but when other shampoos made my thinning hair worse, I ended up returning to the AB shampoo).

Have any of you guys tried these and what did you think? Overall I find that the AB Rich cream and lip balm are my favorites out of their lineup.
