The Curated Review: The Tailored Coat

After purchasing The Curated’s Classic coat, which I loved (and reviewed here), I decided to try out another one of their coats, this time the Tailored coat (sadly no longer sold). I got this one on sale at the end of the season and thus was only able to wear it a couple times before it got too warm. Now that it’s Autumn and the temps are cooling down am I reaching for this coat? Eh, a fair amount actually.

Even though this is the Tailored coat, it doesn’t feel that tailored on me. That might be because I wanted to try the next size up. I got the Classic coat in a small and even though it fits, it’s a tad snug (so that I can’t fit a sweater underneath). Thus, I thought to size up to medium for my next Curated coat. And yep the medium can definitely fit a sweater underneath, but the Tailored coat is also about 4 inches longer than the Classic coat and I feel like it kind of dwarfs my 5’4” frame. Also the slight A-line shape of the Tailored coat makes it a tad bulky near the bottom (vs. The Classic is a straight cut). It comes with a belt and belt loops you can add to the coat, but I prefer not to belt it. But I’m sure if I were to belt it, the coat would look less bulky.

However I do like the slimmer sleeves and the hidden pockets of the Tailored coat (the pockets were a big reason I wanted to try the Tailored coat). The Classic has patch pockets on the front that are convenient but look more casual. I’ve also noticed that the lapels of the Tailored coat come down further than on the Classic (neutral about this).

Also this Tailored coat in forest green is made of 100% wool (as opposed to the wool/cashmere blend of the Classic) and it definitely feels less soft. That 30% of cashmere makes a pretty big difference. The scratchiness isn’t terrible since I wear a sweater underneath the Tailored coat, but if you’re looking for a more luxe feel then stick to the coats made with the wool/cashmere blend.

Anyway I’m planning on keeping this coat for this coming winter season and see how much I wear it compared to my Classic Coat. And if it’s not much, then I might sell it. However since The Curated no longer makes this style of coat it might be worth hanging onto for now.
