Ilana Kohn Review: The Mabel Jacket

Ilana Kohn Review

If you’ve read my What I Bought in May post, you already know that I’ve returned this Mabel jacket from Ilana Kohn. But I thought I would write this quick review here for those who are interested in this jacket (still selling at the Garmentory) or it’s close cousin the Park Jacket still selling at IlanaKohn.com. And sometimes the Mabel jacket will show up time to time on the RealReal (their current selection of Ilana Kohn jackets here), which is where I found this one.

First off, I really wanted to like this jacket. I love the neutral color and minimal style, I love the four large pockets, I love that the top two pockets don’t have flaps, I love the quality of the linen/cotton blend fabric, and I love the subtly contrasting white buttons. And most of all I loved that it was in excellent condition and was priced at $108 (this retailed for $395!). But when I put it on, I didn’t love it on me. One insta-poller dm’d me to tell me I looked Ina Garten-ish, which I think was not a compliment lol.

I’m wearing a small here, but it’s slightly too long and wide for my 5’4” frame. In the picture below from Garmentory, the model is 5’7” and wearing an XS. I feel like that’s the right fit and the look I was going for.

So with some regret I decided to return it. Maybe if an XS ever pops up on the RealReal for a great price I might try it again. Because like I said above, there’s a lot of things to love about this jacket.

And if you’re interested, you can find my other two Ilana Kohn reviews here: the Eleanor top (I got more details about their production practices in this review post) and the Harry jumpsuit.
