For Days Upcycled Rib Top and Pants Review

For Days Review Upcycled Rib Top and Pants

I first heard of the brand For Days via Instagram (dang you Insta marketing), and when they had a sale a couple months ago I snagged the Upcycled Rib top and pants set that I had my eye on. Everything else from the brand is mostly tees and sweats, and seems very Gen Z to me. But this rib set reminded me of some of the stuff I used to wear in the 90’s during middle school, and I guess the nostalgia got me.

If you haven’t heard of For Days, they are a brand that touts a closed loop system. Meaning they will take back all their old clothes so that nothing goes into a landfill. Each item comes with “swap credit” that can be used towards future purchases. This credit is earned when purchasing items or purchasing a take-back bag to send clothes to them. They either resell or recycle your clothes. And they also recycle all of their own items that are sent back to them. You can learn more about them here on the For Days About page.

I purchased the upcycled rib polo and pants which are made of 48% organic cotton, 20% recycled cotton, 20% recycled poly, 10% tencel, 2% elastane. I normally don’t like to purchase things with plastic in them, though it helps that it’s at least recycled polyester. But the thing is at the end of life for this particular set, it can’t be recycled due to the mix of fibers. At best, it’s going to be processed into some kind of insulation or wall filling. And that would be ok too, if only I actually like the set.

Unfortunately the sizing on this set doesn’t work for me. The top, which I got in a medium, is cute but waaaay too short on my long torso. I think if I was a tad younger, I might go for the midriff-baring look. But these days I don’t love that look on me. For these pictures, I hiked up my pants reeeeaaally high to keep my tummy covered. And even with me wearing the pants uncomfortably high, the bottom of the pants (which were also a size medium) were still touching the ground (thus the platform shoes). The waist of the pants measures 15.5" unstretched and 19" stretched. Inseam measures 29” and outseam measures 40”. If I were to wear these pants at my natural waist, I would be stepping on the bottoms. Also due to the stretchy rib nature of the material, I don’t think these would be that easy to hem.

Also the rib material is so-so. Kind of heavy, and not soft and stretchy. It’s more like stiff and stretchy. And I could imagine with multiple washes, this kind of material would stretch out of of shape.

I think overall I had imagined that this outfit would be my fun, cool lounge wear but in actuality I would never wear it because it’s doesn’t fit and isn’t comfortable. I find myself just wearing my same old Uniqlo jogger pants (that I talked about here and are 10+ years old) and my Mate the Label sweatshirts (my Mate the Label review here). So unfortunately I decided to sell this set and I don’t think I’ll be trying anything else from this brand.
