Loewe Mini Hammock Hobo Bag Review

Thank you to all those who’ve been patiently waiting for this review of the Loewe Mini Hobo Hammock bag. As you can see from these photos, I purchased this bag in late Fall and have been using it off and on for about four months now. I used to have the original Loewe Hammock bag (review of it here), but ended up selling it because I didn’t really use it. I think I stopped using it because of the way it aged and the fact that the bag is so open. So how would I compare that to the new Mini Hammock Hobo bag? I think it’s much better IMHO.

First off a note about sizing. Even though they call this the Mini Hammock Hobo, it’s not that mini (measures 7”H x 10.6”L x 3.7”W). It’s definitely smaller than the original small hammock bag, but this mini hammock hobo can still fit the essentials and then some. I usually fit my compact wallet, my bulky sunglasses case, my phone, keys, and some lip balms. Inside there are no pockets or dividers, just one big open space. {Side note: This bag fits less than the small puzzle tote, which I reviewed here.}

The thing I love most about this bag is its versatility. It can be carried by a short handle (that’s adjustable—just move the knot to where you like) or the long adjustable and removable shoulder strap. I choose to wear it with a broad canvas strap (that I originally purchased for my puzzle bag, but I like it on this bag more since the leather colors match though the hardware colors do not). Because I usually carry it with the strap I purchased seperately I can’t tell you for sure how comfy the thin strap that comes with the bag is. I can imagine though that if you weight down the bag with something heavy the thin strap can start digging in. However, with just the essentials the strap should be comfy enough. I also love how under-the-radar this bag can be (obviously without the canvas “LOEWE” strap that I use).

Recently I added charms to the string of the bag and that’s a fun way to personalize the bag without doing anything permanent. The bag comes with one Loewe gold dice charm and I added a little piggy (for my birth year zodiac) and a letter E cube.

My only pet peeve is that when I leave the bag unzipped, it looks extra wonky like in the pic above. But obviously I should just keep my bag zipped lol.

Also I just wanted to add this picture here, since this is why I think this particular bag is called the mini hammock hobo, even though it’s nothing like the original hammock bag. When you pull the top handle string all the way across, the bag will fold and resemble the hammock bag. But this isn’t the most practical way of carrying this bag and can’t be done if there’s actually stuff in the bag.

Overall I think this is a great everyday bag for the essentials, that only the people who know Loewe would know is a luxury bag. I don’t think this is a super popular bag so I don’t see any price increases on this anytime soon. I got this in Las Vegas last year for $1700+tax, but you can find some in the secondhand market for less (see Fashionphile’s current Loewe mini hammock hobo selection here—that vintage khaki one on there is the one I originally wanted). There are replicas of these out there so I would check authenticity (I’ve looked through these guides to kind of help me authenticate Loewe items). You can also find some here at Liberty of London for about $100 less.
