Kinfield Review

*The kit was a gift, but all opinions are my own. I was not paid for this review, but I did sign up for their affiliate program for the links in this post. Thanks for supporting brands that support this blog. All pictures come from kinfield.com

Since I’m always on the search for a good reef-safe sunscreen (because that’s important!), when the nice folks at kinfield asked if I wanted try out some of their products for review, I jumped on the chance to try their products. I haven’t heard of them before they reached out to me, but a quick glance at their website told me they’re right up my alley (reef-safe, vegan, etc.). Their product line is all about being able to enjoy the great outdoors sans bug bites and sun burn. And though I’m no outdoors-woman, I go on enough camping trips to warrant giving them a shot.

I ended up going for their Outdoors Kit (no longer sold on their site, though it is sold by Free People with less items and that’s linked here), which has a little bit of everything. I figured this was the best way to try out all their products, and just in case their stuff wasn’t good I wouldn’t be wasting much. Well I’m happy to report that I loved almost all of their products and will probably be repurchasing some of them in the future.

Let’s start with the one that I was meh about, which was their Sunglow sunscreen. It’s a slightly tinted sunscreen for the face that’s reef-safe and give you a “glow.” However for me, it really didn’t do much. It’s too thin to cover any redness, though at least it didn’t break me out.

I much prefer their Daily Dew sunscreen, that goes on fairly sheer so it’s perfect under makeup. The sunscreen isn’t streaky at all and dries fairly matte. It’s by far the best untinted facial sunscreen I’ve tried in a long time, and it’s definitely one that I’ll reorder.

The third sunscreen in the kit is the Cloud Cover sunscreen and I would say it’s a great sunscreen that also dries fairly matte and isn’t streaky. This one is meant to be a body sunscreen and it’s a great one for that. It does go on a bit white if you put on too much but once you rub it in there’s no white caste left. The next time I’m in the market for a body sunscreen, this one will definitely be at the top of the list.

Now to be honest, I haven’t tried their deet-free mosquito repellant yet (I know, it’s what they’re known for). I keep forgetting to bring it along with me because I’m rarely in a place with a lot of mosquitos, though you can bet I was sorry I forgot it at home when we were in the boonies of Hawaii. I got 6 mosquito bites (they love me), though thankfully my daughter and husband didn’t get any (I guess this is my baseline test—the “control” part of a study if you will lol). You can bet the next time I’m out there I’ll be bringing kinfield’s Golden Hour mosquito repellant. If this stuff is as good as their other stuff I trust that it’ll work. However I’ll update this review with the results when I actually use the stuff.

And finally my favorite product of the bunch is their anti-itch Relief Balm. It 100% worked on soothing the itch and the inflamed bumps from my bug bite. It’s also a favorite with my daughter whenever she has an itchy spot (whether an actual bug bite or dry skin). The relief balm is vegan and uses eucalyptus and cajeput (tea tree) for itch relief and shea butter and plant oils for moisturizing. It definitely soothes the itch without being sticky (which my daughter hates). I also love that it comes in a cardboard tube making it a plastic-free product (they say to recycle after using but since it has residues, it’s probably best to compost).

I also love that kinfield takes their sustainability seriously (as an outdoorsy company should). They’re products are vegan, cruelty Free, Leaping Bunny Certified, and formulated without Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates or Synthetic Fragrances. They also have a recycling program via Terra Cycle that I’m 100% going to use (to get 40% off my next purchase as well). Overall, I definitely feel like they’re making excellent products in the most sustainable way possible.
