Augustinus Bader Review: The Ultimate Soothing Cream

I got the Augustinus Bader Ultimate Soothing Cream back when I was still getting credit from the AB website (but sadly that is not the case anymore), or else I wouldn’t normally splash out on a $265 jar of cream just to try it. But lucky for you guys I nabbed this right before they shut off my credit tap from referrals so I can give you my honest opinion of the cream.

As you might know, I’m a huge fan of their rich cream (my Augustinus Bader Rich Cream review here) and their lip balm (Augustinus Bader Lip Balm review here), but was “meh” about their regular cream, the body lotion, the body cream, the hand treatment, and their shampoo (you can see all my other Augustinus Bader reviews here). So where does the Ultimate Smoothing Cream (referred to as USC from here on out) lie? Sadly it’s in the “meh” section for me.

Here’s the thing, the USC has a great texture, and it 100% does feel like it soothes my skin. But unfortunately, the USC alone is not hydrating enough for my fairly dry skin. When using the USC alone both day and night I find that it leaves me a tad scaly. Now mind you I’m mostly in A/C environments 24/7 these days due to our 90-100 degree weather. I go from my A/C home to my A/C car to the A/C grocery stores and A/C library, etc. So I find that the only thing that really works for me is still the AB Rich cream.

Also the combination of the USC and my Nuori sunscreen + a mask gives me maskne. But my combination of the regular AB cream or the rich cream and sunscreen doesn’t not break me out. Thus I tend to only use the USC at night.

I have fairly sensitive skin so I have general redness and itchy moments (from who knows what) time to time. And I find that when I use the USC before I use the Rich cream, the redness disappears quickly. My skin indeed feels soothed. But I can’t really advocate getting the USC to use in conjunction with the rich cream. I mean that’s almost a $640 skin moisturizing regimen and quite ridiculous IMHO. The rich cream alone is quite an extravagance (but one that I cannot live without because I’m so addicted to it). But once this USC runs out I do not plan to repurchase.
