Moving from conspicuous to conscious consumption and doing reviews along the way.  Find plenty of unsponsored reviews of Quince, Everlane, Grana, and Cuyana on the site!  I'm working towards a minimal waste lifestyle, and oh yea I love bags >.<

Weekend Update/Ramblings

Oh boy, what a week huh. Well maybe especially if you’re an Asian-American (or Asian-Australian, Asian-Canadian, or Asian-European, though you guys don’t have the same fear of gun violence lucky ducks). Here, in Hawaii, I’m grateful to be able to feel removed from it a bit since Asians make-up a majority and racism to Asians is quite low. But the shooting in Atlanta and all the hate crimes targeting the elderly in California has me a little fearful of going back to California (I’ve started looking up purchasing pepper spray on Amazon). And that makes me sad to have to deal with a daily underlying fear because of white supremacy (but I also realise that I’ve been lucky enough not to have to deal with this before unlike other BIPOC folk). It has gotten me to think twice about going to downtown SF or the Mission district. And it has also made me want to move back to Hawaii to protect myself and my family. But at the same time I don’t want to let my life be ruled by fear. I have every right to live where I want to live and be safe, just like all my fellow Americans. I want to live my life joyfully despite the fear. Otherwise white supremacy would have won. But I do wonder how we as a nation (but also we as a global population) can evolve past white supremacy. Is donating to the right non-profits and activism enough? I know part of it starts at home and within ourselves. And I feel lucky to have started down that path of awareness last year. The ignorance of racism has no place in modern times and in an evolved humanity.
