I am officially the Goldilocks of Only Child Dune pants. This is my third pair from this Oakland-made, women-led slow fashion brand, though probably not my last lol. I got my first pair in black in a size 2, which had fit but was quite tight. This was 2 years ago and Haley was nice enough to exchange it to a size 4. But I got pregnant and blew up in size soon after, so I never really got to wear it (thus no review of the Dune pants 2 years ago). I sold it thinking I probably wouldn’t be able to fit back into them post-pregnancy (and I was right). Well I guess the Dune pants never left my mind because two years later, I bought my third pair is amber linen (no longer available in this color) in a size 8 petite off of eBay.
I think what keeps drawing my back to the Dune pants is the flat front and elastic band at the back. Thus it’s a really polished-looking pair of pants that can be dressed up or down. I also like the snugness at the hips and thighs (it’s pretty slimming). I also love my Cove pants from Only Child but they’re much more casual since they’re wide through the hips and it’s a fully elastic waistband. The Cove pants are more like pjs. The Dune pants are a little more dressy (though they’re still comfy because of the elastic waistband).

I’ve talked about Only Child’s linen quality here, but overall I think OC has some of the best quality linen in the slow fashion game. This amber linen is slightly thinner than the oatmeal one but I think that’s fine since it’s a darker color. But the linen quality is still better than most linen items I’ve tried (and even better than the Lithuanian linen that’s ubiquitous among slow fashion brands).
But in the end I did not keep these pants (I sold them on eBay for almost the same price that I bought them for). And that’s because the petite sizing doesn’t work for my long torso. The pants ended up giving me camel toe because the rise was a little too short for me. The size 8 worked great (in fact I think I’m going to stick with that size on my next OC bottoms) even though I technically could fit the size 6 as well. But because I like the elastic to be on the less constricting side and I like the looser fit of the size 8 through the hips I’m going to go with the larger size. But since my legs are on the short side, I’ll probably have to get the regular length and then hem it (which is what I did for my Cove pants as well).
Anyway my search for the perfect Dune pants continues but at least I know I’m getting closer to finding the one!
