Two Days Off Clothing Review: Linen Kaneko Dress

Two Days Off Clothing Review Linen Kaneko Dress

As you know I’m a huge fan of the Two Days Off Haruko dress since it made my top favorite things reviewed post and my most worn in 2020 post (you can find my Two Days Off Haruko Dress review here). So in December I decided to gift myself with another couple of pieces from Two Days Off one of which is this Kaneko Dress in mushroom linen. I had seen Gina rock hers on Insta and I knew it was the dress I wanted to try next!

First a note on sizing: I went with a small for this dress (vs. the XS/S I chose for my gingham Haruko). I probably could have fit the XS but since this dress is a button-down I didn’t want to have any gaping if it ended up being too small (plus I have gained some weight since I ordered my first TDO dress). I find the small fits perfectly with no gaping. It’s definitely not that fitted on me but I’m ok with that too. For reference I’m 5’4” and wear am currently wearing about a size 6.

Next I want to talk about this linen: it’s ahhmaazing. I consider myself quite knowledgeable about linen from various ethical fashion brands (my ethical linen comparison post here) so it’s no small feat for the linen from TDO to land on the number one spot on that list. I would equate TDO’s 200gsm midweight linen quality to that of Only Child Clothing and Elizabeth Suzann. But I think it deserves the number one spot because TDO prioritizes deadstock linen (for the colors clay, cactus, and soy). They source their black, moss, mushroom, and bright navy linen from Canada. (Also side note: they will be retiring the cactus, clay, and bright navy linen colors at the time of this writing). I also decided to put TDO at the top because of Gina’s efforts to be plastic-free and Climate Neutral certified. Since Gina (the founder) is a climate scientist it makes sense she would try to make clothes as sustainably as possible (more about all her efforts here). And I love that TDO is a BIPOC woman-led brand based out of Los Angeles (thus somewhat locally made for me—at least it’s the same state).

Two Days Off Kaneko Dress Review

As for the actual dress, I love that the Kaneko is an easy loose-fitting dress. Much like my gingham Haruko, I can just toss it on and it’s instantly a polished outfit. But I also love that the Kaneko can be unbuttoned and used as a duster as well (like in my mirror selfie above). I do find that the length is a tad long on my 5’4” frame and I feel it looks best when I wear it with heels (though I wear it with Birkenstocks all the time too). I might hem it by an inch like I did with my Haruko dress. I’ve worn the dress on multiple occasions and have had no issues with gaping between the buttons or buttons coming undone. I’ve washed and steam-pressed once and haven’t had any issues. Since I don’t iron, my linen items always have a bit of wrinkle to them but I don’t mind.

I can’t wait to wear this versatile Kaneko dress over and over again this year. I think it’s the perfect addition to my fairly curated wardrobe! If you’re interested you can get $15 off with the code FairlyCurated (I will also get $15 off my next purchase so thank you for funding my future TDO reviews!).
