Weekend Update/Ramblings

Hi guys, how are you doing? It’s been awhile since my last life update so I thought I’d check in with you all. We’re doing fine on this end and I’m feeling quite grateful for the Grandma day care hours we get everyday (about 3 hours a day). That extra time has helped my write a bit more these days (did you see my two posts this past week instead of the usual one?). I’ll try to continue to do two posts a week but can’t guarantee it.

Anyway I’m also feeling extra grateful for being back in my hometown of Honolulu. In general, Hawaii has been able to control the coronavirus here and so there hasn’t been a dramatic surge. But we’re still keeping it safe by wearing masks anytime we’re around those outside of our household. I’ve only taken trips to Goodwill and Lowe’s so far to get things for our apartment here. I haven’t hit up my usual eating and shopping grounds since those aren’t really essential (though I might treat myself to a trip to Ala Moana soon). In general people in Hawaii are really good about wearing masks. Everyone always wears a mask indoors and most people wear them outdoors as well (I’ll even see people wearing masks on their solitary walks outside or waiting by themselves at a bus stop—even I would be tempted to go mask-free if I know I’m alone so I’m impressed by those people’s commitment). I’m grateful for the more Asian mentality of masks (that it’s no big deal) among the locals. I’m hoping that’s what’s helping keep the virus at bay here (that and the nice weather that makes outside gathering more conducive).

This is starting to feel like an early Thanksgiving post with all the things I’m grateful for lol. As for Thanksgiving we’re hosting my in-laws for lunch on our balcony (or what we call lanai), with masks (except when eating), and 6 feet apart. I’m not taking any chances and hope you guys aren’t either. Also hope you guys are hanging in there! Whew it’s been a tough year (and it looks like it won’t be letting up). Happy early Thanksgiving and I hope we can all find joy and gratefulness where we can this week ❤️.
