Ichi Antiquites Review: The Linen Dress

Ichi Antiquities Review

Ichi Antiquities has been on my radar for awhile now since I’ve been in the ethical linen game. But I never thought the big flowy dresses were really my style. Well guess my style is a changin’ because I’ve purchased multiple big flowy dresses this year. Side note: my style could also be changing because I’m finally letting go of my co-dependency on Everlane. Any-who, I was influenced by Erica (yet again lol) to get this Ichi Antiquities dress in smoky pink (see her version in a brilliant blue over on her insta) and I have zero regrets. This is the nap dress of my dreams though I probably wouldn’t nap in it (but I could).

First a note on sizing: it’s all one size fits all lol. As the Namu shop puts it, “Each piece comes in one-size, transforming and taking shape after the individual for that perfect lived-in feel.” In general the sizing is very oversized. The dress measures 45” across and 53” long so I’m sure it could fit most people (though probably not everyone). But it definitely makes their production easier if they only have to produce one size.

As for the linen quality, I don’t have the exact weight of the linen but going off of feel alone, I would estimate that it is a slightly lighter weight than the linen from Linenfox or notPerfectLinen. It’s definitely a lighter linen than the one used by Elizabeth Suzann or Only Child. The linen that Ichi Antiquities uses (from what I understand) is made and dyed in Japan (though I’m not sure where they source the raw flax from). Also since this is such a light color, if I’m back lit by sunlight, the dress is kind of see-through.

Ichi Antiquities Review

I really love the ease of this dress. The oversized nature and the fact that it’s made of linen makes it super comfortable on hot days. It’s the perfect buffet dress, nap dress, and pregnancy dress. The only drawback is that it’s definitely on the pricey side (as most things in Japan are). But I feel like I am going to get a lot of use out of this dress and if I were ever to let it go, it would easily sell on the secondhand market. I purchased this smoky pink dress from At.Land (it was an At.Land exclusive), and unfortunately it’s currently sold out. But they do have this dreamy lavender one (which tbh I might have chosen over the smoky pink if it had been available at the time). I look forward to wearing this dress for the rest of summer and transitioning it into the fall.

Anyone else try Ichi Antiquities and what did you think?
