Only Child Linen Cove Pants vs. Linenfox Ocean Pants

Linenfox Ocean Pants Review vs. Only Child Cove Pants

So the idea for this post is all thanks to Andrea, who asked me what the differences were between the Only Child Cove pants and the Linenfox Ocean pants. You can find my full Linenfox Linen Wide Leg Culottes Review here and my Only Child Cove Pants review here.

So first off let’s address the elephant in the room. The biggest difference between the two pants are of course the price. Currently the Only Child Cove pants sell for $225 while the Linenfox Ocean Pants sell for $84.27. I think if you can afford it, purchasing slow fashion from a domestic maker is the way to go. We have so little manufacturing/production in this country that supporting a small business that is making something in the US is important. But I understand that domestically-made slow fashion isn’t in many people’s price range. So the next best thing is to buy from an ethical slow-fashion maker who also produces quality items.

Linenfox Ocean Pants Review

So next the linen quality. I talk about it in my ethical inen comparison review here but basically the Only Child linen is a little heavier at 254gsm while Linenfox uses a midweight linen of 185gsm. I like my linen to be of a heavier quality but some, especially those who wear linen during the most sweltering months of summer, want a lighter linen weight. It’s a matter of preference I think. I think it also only really matters if you’re choosing a light colored linen, in which case I think the heavier the quality the more opaque it will be.

The next biggest difference is whether or not you want pockets. I have to say the Linenfox pants win on this one since they have pockets and I need pockets. The Cove pants unfortunately do not have pockets. {Edit: Thanks to Rose for letting me know that Cove pants now come with pockets! Yipee! So that means both pants are equal when it comes to this now.}

And finally the measurements. I’m not a seamstress here so the measurements are going to be an estimate but I do have a measuring tape and I do know how to use it.

Linenfox Ocean Pants size M: 13.25” rise // 14” waist (flat across) // 20.75” hips // 13” thigh // 12” calf // 25.8” original inseam (after hemming my inseam is 23” in the pictures here, for reference I’m 5’4”).

Only Child Cove Pants size M-Petite: 15” rise (avg. 14” but somehow mine are closer to 15”) // 14.5” waist // 20.5” hips // 12.5” thigh // 12” calf // 24” original inseam (after hemming my inseam is 21.25” in the pictures here—I really wanted it to be ankle length).

So from the measurements you can see that the rise is about an inch or more higher on the OC Coves, which makes a difference when you’re wearing a more cropped top. And even though I thought the Linenfox pants were slimmer in the hips and legs than the Coves, it’s actually the Coves that are slimmer by a smidge (0.25” for the hips and 0.5” for the thigh). Calf measurements are the same. I should also note that the elastic on the OC pants are thicker and tighter than the Linenfox ones (even if the unstretched measurements show that the Linenfox waist is slimmer). So if I know I’m going to be eating a lot, I go for the Linenfox pants over the OC ones.

Anyway I hope you found this useful and let me know if you guys have any other questions about these pants!
