5 Things Friday

May 8, 2015

1) I've just started watching Chef's Table on Netflix and this documentary series is fantastic!  It's created by the same guy who directed Jiro Dream's of Sushi.  The storytelling is amazing and quite touching. And the visuals are just stunning.  This is the next wave of chef superstars, thanks to the exposure from David Gelb. If you're a foodie, go watch it now!

2.  I found this entertaining:

3. I don't have a green thumb by any means but I do get satisfaction when I'm able to keep a plant alive long enough so I can eat it!  Last year I grew kale and lettuce and so this year I'm going back to kale.  But a peach tree we planted several years ago finally looks like it has some fruit!  I hope we have some tasty peaches this year.

4.  Once upon a time, a good friend suggested I do a fashion blog since I'm interested in the topic.  But I'm not comfortable taking modeling shots so I decided to start a fashion instagram account instead.  It's my vanity project.  It mostly centers around my bag obsession (which I find never leaves me no matter how old I get... what can I say, I'm a bag lady).  If you want to follow, the account name is daly.style (inspired by my love for Daly City, lol no actually I just couldn't think of a name).

5. And if you haven't read my last post yet about great mothers, go read it (and then tell your mother how great she is)! Not the least because I accidentally deleted the main body of the post and had to type it up twice!  There seems to be a trend of me accidentally deleting things on SquareSpace: it happened to me on two separate occasions this week.  Gotta be more careful.  Anyways have a great weekend and Happy Mother's Day to all the moms in the world (that read this blog)!

Have you heard of Hatch the line of (quite) pricey maternity wear? Well I decided to review some of their pieces and on the blog today: whether I thought they were worth the 🤑 #unsponsored ▫️▫️▫️
Also found out my due date is going to be set for March 11!
What to do when you’re 8+ months pregnant and in a style rut? Rent some maternity clothes from @renttherunway ❤️ Now I finally get to try that 🐻 coat trend without feeling guilty about the 100% plastic fiber content and what to do with it once the trend is over. So instead of letting myself buy one new item for my closet this month (my New Years resolution), I let myself purchase a one month subscription! I’m very happy with my decision 😁 PS all the things I wanted to buy but didn’t in January is now posted on the blog 🖋
So you know how I made a resolution to add only one item of clothing a month? Well I found an awesome reader who was willing to do a clothing swap so I could try out her Cuyana alpaca and Vetta sweaters (and she’s trying out my @only_child pieces—thanks Teresa!) ❤️ It’s a win-win and now I can review these new-to-me clothes without consuming more 👍🏼#gettingcreative
Current maternity uniform on repeat: rented @vince coat, secondhand @elizsuzann Georgia midi dress, secondhand purse, and my trusty Vince sneakers. I’ve worn this 5/7 days this week 😁 serious #outfitrepeater here 🙋🏻‍♀️
Hope you’re all enjoying a relaxing long weekend! As for me, I’ll be spending it unpacking. Anyway with the busy-ness of the move, I forgot to mention I reviewed this #Everlane square cardigan this week 🖋link in bio
Last mirror selfie in this house! We’re moving tmr and it’s going to be bittersweet downsizing to half the space (let’s hope it’s more sweet than bitter tho 😆)
It’s been almost a month since my last post and what a month it’s been 😓 thanks to everyone who watched my stories from the hospital and wished me well. It would have been nice for the new year to have been a fresh start but life doesn’t work that way. In the meantime I’m being cautiously optimistic while focusing on and being grateful for the present moment.
Ootd in the wild: $11 thrifted blouse layered with my @elizsuzann Harlow dress, secondhand purse and 10 year old boots. Even though I feel like a 🐳 I feel like a stylish one 😁 hope you’re all having a great Sunday!
Better late than never? Finally tried the #everlane square soft cotton sweater I’ve seen every blogger and their mom wear, and now I finally see its magic 😆 it’s especially great for us preggo ladies 🖋 review linked in bio
I used to subscribe to the belief in the “must-have checklist for every woman’s wardrobe.” I mean, how great to have all the essentials told to you by an “expert.” But I’ve come to realize that there’s no such list. Some things on that list just don’t work for me (white button downs, trench coats, black work pants) and that’s because we’re all different. We have to have our own list of essentials (for me that’s an oversized linen top, a silk jumpsuit, and elastic pants). No one list can define the tastes of every woman nor should it. What’s on your list of essentials?
Thank you to everyone who followed along on insta story and sent me all the good vibes this weekend! I think it worked! Things are looking up and I’m going to remain hopeful everything goes well. 🍀🤞🏼
In the meantime I’m going to try to get back to some normalcy and so here’s my latest blog post about how my #everlane Day Market has fared over 100 wears this year. It’s officially my most used item in my closet (and even became my hospital bag this weekend) 🖋 link in bio
🤰🏻
Also for my fellow preggos out there, I reviewed these Storq leggings last week Friday and see what I thought about this newcomer in the ethical maternity space!
Okay I’m no hand model but I just wanted to post this to let you all know I’m doing a giveaway for this 1930s gold and onyx ring (with a teeny diamond) on the blog today! Thank you guys are all your support again this year whether it was your time, comments, encouragement, or your clicks 💕Link in bio to enter!
Review of the alpaca crew on the blog today 🖋 read why I sent it back #unsponsored
I’m sure a lot of us joke that we’re addicted to our phones, but in all honesty I really was. I originally resisted setting up Screen Time with the new iOS on my iPhone because I didn’t want to know how much time I was wasting on my phone 🙈 But when I finally did I was shocked. I was spending a total of over 7 hours a day staring at this small screen. That’s almost a full time job! I did justify it by saying, well Instagram is important for the blog and my blog is a part time job. But I was spending over 12 hours on Instagram alone per week. I had a serious problem. ✨
I purchased this book 5 months ago knowing I had an addiction but part of the problem was that my attention span has been so shot through by my iPhone that I couldn’t finish a book anymore. I used to be a voracious reader and now I hadn’t finished a book in possibly years.
📚
So knowing I would have some mandatory digital detox periods during this past Airstream camping trip, I made it a goal to finish this book. And you guys, I don’t want to sound fanatical but my life has changed for the better. I’ve finally started breaking my addiction and my iPhone no longer sucks away my hours and essentially my life.
I wrote a blog post all about it today (linked in bio). Find out what were the essentials steps that finally gave me my life back.
This passage from “Your Money or Your Life” has been reverberating around my mind lately: “One if the pervasive assumptions is that growth is good. Our economy depends on growth to survive—and we as Americans have absorbed that growth ethic into our own aspirations for our lives. If we have one pair of pants we need two; if we have two, we need three. We ignore intellectual, emotional and spiritual growth, having gotten stuck trying to continue to grow physically by adding more and more possessions...This ‘more is better, growth is good’ cultural assumptions breed in us subtle economic prejudices. We judge our own and others’ importance by material yardsticks.”

So nice I wore it twice (in one week) 😁 Actually it was @kmqui who made me love this outfit even more by pointing out the subtle shoulder detail of this thrifted lemaire for uniqlo tunic. So thank you! 💙
Also planning to sell this vintage Chanel bag because there’s no point to holding on to it if I don’t use it 🤷🏻‍♀️
Maybe a tad late in the season but I reviewed this @only_child linen Alta top which I got at the end of summer. I loved my raw silk Alta so much I decided to try the linen one in a size up. Link in bio to read about the differences between the two!
Ok so no makeup and a puffy morning face but I wanted to have a redo pic of a couple weeks ago when a reader called me out for using disposable goods on a post about Everlane’s ReNew puffer jacket and trying to use less plastic 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m not anywhere near perfect nor will I ever be but I always want to try to do better. So when I knew I might be visiting the same bakery I went prepared with my own coffee cup and pastry bag. Sometimes you guys are tough on me but that’s what I need to hear to up my zero waste game so thank you!
Ethical preggo wedding style: vintage Chanel blazer, secondhand Elizabeth Suzann Mara jumpsuit and 8 year old Valentino shoes. I could probably even wear this 20 years from now 😁
I usually save these #ootd photos for insta-stories because I feel like mirror selfies aren’t good enough for a post and I didn’t want to “ruin my feed.” But who am I trying to impress? So I’m going to care a little less about trying to be that blogger/grammer like everyone else and following their rules for success and just do more of what I want. And sometimes that means a headless mirror selfie shot as a post because dang it if I don’t love this new outfit combo today.

My small corner of the internet to share my life in a temporary-house (currently a house and soon to be apartment), my style (consisting mostly of Everlane, Elizabeth Suzann, and 2nd hand bags), and anything else that I'm interested in.  Almost all reviews here are unsponsored and unbiased (or at least I try to be).  I hope you find something useful here and thanks for reading!
